How It Works

Image Cropping & Transformation

Image cropping and transformation are performed using the HTML5 Canvas API. When you apply rotation or flip operations, the tool calculates the new canvas dimensions and uses 2D transformation matrices (translate, rotate, scale) to render the transformed image. The final result is exported as a new image file without modifying the original.

Aspect Ratios Explained

1:1 (Square)

Perfect for profile pictures, social media avatars, and Instagram posts.

16:9 (Widescreen)

Standard for YouTube thumbnails, presentations, and modern video content.

4:3 / 3:2 / 2:3

Classic photography and print ratios. 4:3 for traditional screens, 3:2 for DSLR photos, 2:3 for portraits.

FAQ

Does cropping reduce image quality?

No. Cropping simply selects a portion of the image without re-encoding or reducing quality. The output maintains the original pixel quality within the cropped area. However, if you crop to a much smaller area and then enlarge it, the effective resolution will be lower.

Can I crop to a specific pixel size?

The current version supports aspect ratio-based cropping rather than exact pixel dimensions. For precise pixel dimensions, you can use the aspect ratio that matches your needs and then resize the downloaded image using another tool.

What happens to transparency when I flip or rotate?

Transparency (alpha channel) is fully preserved during rotation and flip operations. PNG images with transparent backgrounds will maintain their transparency in the output.

Can I undo rotation or flip operations?

Clicking the same transform button again will reverse the effect — rotating 4 times returns to the original orientation, and flipping twice cancels out. There is no separate undo button, but you can always re-upload the original image to start over.
