This tool uses the browser-image-compression library, which leverages the HTML5 Canvas API to re-encode images at your specified quality level, all within your browser.

Is there a file size limit for compression?

The tool can handle images up to 10MB with a maximum dimension of 4096px. For very large images, the tool may automatically resize them during compression. All processing happens in your browser, so performance depends on your device's capabilities.

Does compression reduce image resolution?

By default, this tool preserves the original dimensions. Compression reduces file size primarily through quality reduction (lossy re-encoding), not by reducing pixel dimensions. The visual difference depends on the quality setting you choose.

Can I compress PNG images with transparency?

Yes, PNG images with transparency are supported. However, PNG compression is lossless by nature, so the file size reduction may be less dramatic compared to JPEG/WebP. The tool will re-encode the image while preserving the alpha channel where possible.

Why is the compression ratio different for different images?

Compression ratio depends on the image content. Images with large areas of uniform color (like screenshots or graphics) compress much better than photos with lots of detail and noise.
